Bobby asks govt to solve Dax impasse

Motaung again defends Chiefs’ hiring of Solinas

Kaizer Chiefs fans may soon find out what the hype around Andriamirado Andrianarimanana was about after the club roped in the Madagascan government to intervene to try solve the impasse involving the striker.

There have been complications with the transfer of the attacker known simply as Dax, as his club Fosa Juniors continue to play hard ball.

The Soweto giants announced Andrianarimanana as one of their three new signings alongside Khama Billiat and Letlhogonolo Mirwa last month.

The deal for the Madagascar international has hit a stumbling block, though, with Fosa reportedly holding out for more money.

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung revealed that the minister of sport of that country was trying help find a solution to the matter.

“Sometimes when you deal with some foreign clubs, things chop and change,” said Motaung at the launch of the Mpumalanga Cultural Challenge Cup yesterday.

“Sometimes it’s monetary issues that were not there at first – it’s the hostility of some people who come in and interfere.

“We are trying to handle it properly with the federation, through the minister of sport to assist the boy [but] it is a bit of a challenge. But as clubs, we have agreed not to solve the matter through the media so there is ongoing engagements.”

Dax is not the only signing who is yet to start officially working at Chiefs as coach Giovanni Solinas is still waiting for the finalisation of his work permit.

Despite doubts around the new boss, Motaung felt that Solinas need not have won titles in the past to be worthy of coaching Amakhosi.

The Chiefs honcho insists that they have won championships before with mentors who were relatively unknown in SA.

“All the coaches we have brought in had won nothing and they have won everything since they were at Chiefs,” Motaung said.

“I don’t think people knew Jeff Butler, Ted Dumitru or Muhsin Ertugral. We had the same problem.”

Chiefs will take on Cape Town City in the Cultural Challenge Cup at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

It is the third pre-season cup they will compete in after the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup and the Shell Helix Cup.

Solinas will not be on the bench as his work permit is yet to be finalised.

Mbombela United and Spear of the Nation will play the curtain raiser at 12pm.
