Van Vuuren holds strong hand

Victor Forth should live up to his name and win Race 3 at Turffontein tomorrow. / The grandfather-grandson combination of veteran trainer Ormond Ferraris and in-form apprentice jockey Luke Ferraris are firing on all cylinders, and should add another winner to their rapidly rising tally tomorrow when Pick 6 banker Frankly lines up in Race 4, a FM Maiden Plate over 1400m on the Standside track.

The talented apprentice has booked a plethora of great rides from his grandfather, and if punters are looking to play very “small” for a decent payout then consider taking an enticing TAB All To Come featuring a win on Frankly and places on Arrows Of Desire (Race 3), Querari Viking (Race 6) and Bold Viking (Race 7).

Frankly, an Expensive R4 million daughter of wonder-horse Frankel was all the rage on debut but had to settle for second place, failing to justify 2-1 favouritism.

She was extremely unlucky in defeat, finishing an encouraging 0.30 lengths into second place by Mazari over the minimum trip on the Standside track.

Unfortunately, nothing has really gone according to plan for the threeyear-old filly since. She finished fifth in a Listed race, and then ran an absolute shocker in her latest showing when finishing one-from-last in a Grade 3 event, beaten a mammoth 11.35 lengths by Celtic Sea over 1100m.

The 133-day layoff may have done her the world of good, plus she tops the best weighted column and shoulders 2.5kg less than her main danger Nandi’s Vision at 54.5kg.

The only chink in this filly’s armour is the wide No 11 draw she jumps from in this 12-horse field. She’s running off a merit rating of 78 so should have no issues outclassing this field considering the average merit rating of this race is a low 58.

Form lines don’t get any better than the two supporting Joe Soma-trained Victor Forth’s winning chances in Race 3, a Novice Plate for three-yearolds over 1400m.

“He was very impressive in his first run,” said Soma when discussing the colt’s 3.25-length second-place finish behind Grade 1 winner Soqrat who was recently crowned Equus Champion Two-YearOld.

There was plenty to like about the manner in which this son of Pathfork won last time out. He produced a devastating turn of foot over the last 100m to conquer by an extending 0.75 lengths.

That performance strongly suggests the three-year-old is begging for the extra ground, plus he’ll be aided by an advantageous No 1 draw.
