Polokwane City coach Josef Vukusic was glad to finally get a win against neighbours Baroka at Peter Mokaba Stadium at the weekend.

Walter Musona and captain Jabulani Maluleke were on target to hand the Slovakian his first win in charge of Rise and Shine.

Vukusic admitted that he was relieved after losing against

Black Leopards and Mamelodi Sundowns in his first two matches of the season. This was City’s first win over Bakgaga in six attempts in all competitions.

“It was a very important win for us because you have to start somewhere,” Vukusic said.

“I think we played well and showed a fighting mentality from the first to the last player. We deserved the victory.”

Vukusic sounded more pleased with his defence that managed a clean sheet after leaking in three goals in the matches against Leopards (0-1) and Sundowns (0-2).

“I think all the defenders worked well. We had a long time to prepare [for Baroka] and I put more experienced players in the team, because this was a derby and it was not just about the quality, but also the experience,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vukusic’s counterpart Wedson Nyirenda reckoned they were so poor he would have changed the whole line up if the rules permitted him.

“Very disappointed and I cannot pretend that it was good,” Nyirenda reacted.

“We had a poor attitude [towards the game]. The attitude was negative and you cannot win a game playing like that,” continued the Zambian.

“If I was allowed 10 substitutions, I would have substituted everyone.”

Elsewhere on Saturday, Bidvest Wits, who are currently at the top of the PSL log, suffered their first loss of the season at home to the Kaitano Tembocoached SuperSport United, for whom Evans Rusike scored in a 10 win.
