Zakri finally pens deal with the Team of Choice
Striker to boost battling Maritzburg
Yannick Zakri has finally completed his move to Maritzburg United, making the outfit his third Absa Premiership side in two years.
Ivorian Zakri, 27, arrived in the country in August 2016 following a t ransfer from ASEC Mimosas, but failed to make impact and was shipped out on loan to Ajax Cape Town in January this year.
He returned to Sundowns following Ajax’s relegation, but as Pitso Mosimane had already filled the allotted five foreign slots in his side, there was no space for the striker.
A move to Maritzburg has long been on the cards after Lebohang Maboe joined Sundowns three weeks ago, but Zakri only agreed terms of a two-year contract with Team of Choice yesterday.
“We are very happy to welcome Yannick to the club,” Maritzburg owner Farook Kadodia said.
“He is an international with lots of experience and will add to our attacking options up front. It was a bit of a challenge to bring a player from Sundowns to a club with limited resources,” Kadodia said.

Boxing clever was important. “It is a great signing for us.” After an impressive run that saw them finish fourth and reach the final of the Nedbank Cup, Maritzburg have struggled to hit form this term, plummeting to the bottom of the Absa Premiership after a winless start.
They were also knocked out of the MTN8 by Cape Town City and have only scored once in their four games thus far, which also saw key midfielders Fortune Makaringe and Siphesihle Ndlovu red-carded.
