Manyama’s dream move, Bucs set to lose star

Chiefs add Mario but Mahlambi could join Downs

Kaizer Chiefs have signalled their league title ambitions with another big signing, this time Lebogang Manyama on a three-year deal.

Amakhosi have over the past few years been criticised for their lack of big name signings, but after the capture of Khama Billiat and now Manyama, they may have answered their critics.

Manyama, 27, joins Chiefs after leaving Turkish side Konyaspor, whom he had joined from Cape Town City last year.

“It’s a dream come true. I have supported Chiefs from a young age. I grew up on the same street as [former Chiefs goalkeeper] Brian Baloyi in Alexandra and that’s how I fell in love with the club,” Manyama told the club’s website.

“I now want to help the club win trophies and to achieve glory, because that’s what the Kaizer Chiefs brand represents to me.”

Chiefs also added 30-yearold defender Mario Booysen, from Ajax Cape Town, to their squad.

But it appears Mamelodi Sundowns are going to have a big say before the transfer window closes next Friday.

The PSL window will close on August 31 and indications are that the Brazilians are not done yet. Sundowns have already brought in Andile Jali, Toni Silva, Lyle Lakay, Jose Ali Meza, Lebohang Maboe and Mosa Lebusa for their senior team, while Tristan Moses, Shungu Dutiro and Mohammad Carrim will be featuring in the Multichoice Diski Challenge.

The Tshwane side, however, is still pursuing Phakamani Mahlambi despite having had their initial offer of $600 000 (R8.5-million) rejected Egyptian giants, Al Ahly.

After losing pacey players Percy Tau and Billiat, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is still pushing to land Mahlambi’s signature, who’s been in North Africa for a year following his move from Bidvest Wits.

Reports have also emerged that Sundowns are tracking Ajax Cape Town midfielder Grant Magerman.

Orlando Pirates’ utility player Abbubaker Mobara is another big name that could be on the move, having been linked to Bidvest Wits and Sundowns.

Also being targeted by the big clubs is Maritzburg United’s Brian Onyango – mainly by Pirates and Sundowns.
