Dube to lead Arrows’ MDC attack

Striker eyes spot in the senior team

After scoring four goals last term, Golden Arrows MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) striker Nkosikhona Dube has set his sights on winning this season’s reserve league Golden Boot award.

Inspiring Arrows to their second MDC title last campaign, Dube forged a lethal striking partnership with Siboniso Conco, who has since been promoted to the senior team after finishing as the reserve league’s top-scorer with 11 goals and scooped MDC’s Most Precious Find gong.

“Last season I bagged four goals. This season I want to win the Golden Boot award. Since Conco is now promoted to the senior team, I have been trying to find a new striking partner in Kwanele Khwela. I am optimistic that we’ll score many goals together because our combination is coming up nicely,” Dube told Sowetan.

Before the start of the season, Arrows promoted three of their MDC stars in Conco, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Siphamandla Sabelo. The trio have already featured for Clinton Larsen’s side this season.

Their ascendency to top flight football has motivated Dube, 18, to work even harder as he’s determined to follow in their footsteps.

“At Arrows, when you do well, you also get your chance in the first team. I am inspired to see the players we were with last season now playing for the senior side. I will continue to work hard because I want to be like them,” noted Dube, who hails from Stanger, north of KZN.

Arrows will begin their MDC title defence against reigning MultiChoice Diski Shield champions Kaizer Chiefs at Hammersdale Stadium on Sunday.
