Arrows reserves focused on being feeder to senior side

Coach hopes more players will graduate

Golden Arrows MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi is prioritising producing more players who will be promoted to the first team over defending their reserve league title.

This season Arrows have a relatively new MDC squad after the likes of Siboniso Conco, Siphamandla Sabelo and Thando Khwela were promoted to the senior side.

While he’s ambitious to help Abafana Bes’thende retain their MDC title, Vilakazi has emphasised that their primary objective is to promote more players into the senior team.

“We must not forget that this is a development league. By that, I am trying to paint a picture that we are more focused on helping players get promoted to the senior team than defending our championship,” said Vilakazi.

“Yes it would be great to defend it but what is more important for us is to develop players. Arrows is a small team and we rely on the MDC to get the best players.”

Vilakazi has explained why he elected Ngunezi Mkhize to captain the team this season after last campaign’s skipper Sabelo ascended to the topflight. The Arrows MDC mentor foresees a bright future ahead of his new captain.

“We wanted a leader, someone who will encourage his teammates in bad or good times. Ngunezi is just that, he vocal. He will go places. I predict a bright future for him. I like he’s attitude on and off the field. Even his game is improving,” noted Vilakazi.
