Tireless promoters stage bumper boxing bonanza

Armchair critics refuse to acknowledge the hard work done by promoters, especially those that do not get financial assistance from provincial governments because they have to dig deep in their pockets to make boxing happen.

Action continues unabated this weekend, beginning tonight at Meropa Casino in Polokwane where Rofhiwa “War Child” Maemu and Patrick Mukala will put their World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan African featherweight and super-middleweight belts on the line in a Fox Sports bill.

Maemu will face Tello Dithebe in the main attraction, while Mukala will defend his super-middleweight belt against Emmanuel Anim from Ghana in the main supporting fight. Action begins at 7pm.

There will also be two World Boxing Federation (WBF) title fights on the Real Steel Promotions bill in Brakpan, east rand. The tournament, organised by Andre Thysse, will feature WBF International flyweight champion Jackson Chauke against Immanuel Joseph.

Emmany Kalombo will defend his WBF International junior-middleweight belt against Joseph Sinkala. Action will begin at 7pm.

On Sunday afternoon, TK Boxing Promotions will present bouts for the vacant SA bantamweight and welterweight titles at the Portuguese Hall, south of Joburg.

Ronald Malindi and Mbulelo Dyani will headline the bill. Sean Ness and Mziwoxolo Ndwayana will meet in the main supporting bout for the welterweight belt.

The winner will be crowned by former SA welterweight champion Harold Volbrecht.

Gauteng and North West provincial champions Thabang Ramagole and Tiisetso Modisadife will be in action in separate non-title fights.

Action will begin at 2pm.
