Model withdrawn for homophobia
The Feather Awards have already ruffled a few feathers.
Just five hours after the nominations were announced in Johannesburg yesterday afternoon, the awards celebrating the LGBTI community, announced that model Tumi Seeco’s nomination has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
In a statement issued by the Feather Awards, it had emerged that Seeco in the past “has sent out homophobic content on his twitter page”.
“As an event dedicated to fighting homophobia and discrimination against sexual minorities, the Feather Awards has a zero-tolerance attitude to such prejudice. Tumi Seeco’s nomination is withdrawn with immediate effect.”
Seeco was nominated in the hunk of the year category alongside former The Queen actor Thabang Molaba and Ring of Lies star Bohang Moeko.
He will now be replaced by Advocate Dominic Khumalo – popularly known as ANC Bae.
Hunk of the Year nominee for this year’s Feather Awards Moeko showed off his personal trainer bae Shantal Dietrich.
The much-anticipated Drama Queen of the Year category nodded controversial rapper AKA over his “matlapa” social media tirade, author Jackie Phamotse thanks to her Basetsana Kumalo court battle and Robbie Malinga Jnr over his gaudy lifestyle fol- lowing his musician father Robbie Malinga’s death in December.
Bonang Matheba, Ayanda Thabethe and Manthe Ribane are nominated for best styled female; while Riky Rick, Zulu Mkhathini and Kat Sinivasan are nominated for best styled male.
Bontle Modiselle, Mihlali Ndamase and Michelle Mosalakae cracked the nod for hot chicks of the year.
Mmabatho Montsho and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi; Shane Eagle and Nicole “Nikki” Swartz as well as Steve Letsike and Lucy Thukwane will compete for cutest couple of the year.
Other notable mentions include Thembsie Matu, Sjava, Nakhane, FAKA, Connie Ferguson, Rami Chuene and Busiswa.
The 10th instalment of the awards celebrating the LGBTI+ community will take place on November 15, hosted by flamboyant TV/radio personality Somizi Mhlongo at the Johannesburg City Hall.
