Varsity Football followers may have been overwhelmed by Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) goalkeeper Sikhumbuzo Ncube’s Kaizer Chiefs No 1 Itumeleng Khune ball distribution homogeneity, which inspired TUT to their second Varsity Football title on Thursday – beating Wits University 2-1 in the final.

Ncube, 21, looks up to Khune and spends most of his time watching videos of how the Bafana Bafana manage to keep ball distribution.

For the entire match against Wits, the TUT shot-stopper didn’t misplace a pass when he distributed the ball. The fans at Bidvest Stadium cheered him whenever he was about to kick the ball.

“I spend many days trying to be like Khune. My ball distribution is inspired by him because he’s my idol. I watch his videos on YouTube,” said Ncube on the sidelines of their celebrations after lifting the trophy.

The Seshego, Limpopo-born keeper wishes to meet Khune, as he feels that would improve his game.

Ncube was optimistic that his Varsity Football heroics may have attracted top-flight clubs as his dream is to play professional football.

“I would like to meet him [Khune] in person so that I can get some advice from the man himself because I want to improve. I am positive that I have done enough to be noticed by premiership clubs.

“It has always been my dream to play top-flight football. I think my work speaks for itself.

“In 2020 I’ll be 23 so my goal is to play in the Olympics,” said Ncube, who’s doing his second year in coaching and officiating science at TUT.
