First visit inspiring

American actress, singer and TV personality Raven Symoné is having the time of her life touring SA during her week-long stay.

The 32-year-old former child star has already visited Nelson Mandela’s house in Soweto and Maropeng’s Cradle of Humankind.

She has also found her favourite SA meal in the traditional sweet and sticky dessert malva pudding.

“My stay in South Africa so far has been fantastic. I’ve learnt so much. I said to someone that it feels like I have been time travelling, because I love to learn about history,” she told Sowetan yesterday.

“I had a good dinner last night [Monday night]. I have said it about 70 times already that malva pudding was just heaven. I fell asleep, just a diabetic coma,” she joked.

She further gushed about how beautiful the home architecture and design were in SA. This is her first visit to the country.

“Here is what surprised me the most about South Africa, it looks like Beverly Hills and the place that I grew up in [Atlanta]. The architecture of the housing that I saw is gorgeous. The houses on the hill ... I’m just like, ‘is that a Tudor home?’”

Known for her roles in The Cosby Show, Eddie Murphy’s Dr. Dolittle and supernatural sitcom That’s So Raven, she is in SA to promote the spin-off to the show, Raven’s Home.

In the spin-off, she reprises her role, but she’s now all grown up and portraying a mother to pre-teen twins. Season two of the show had a kidfriendly red carpet premiere last night at Joburg’s Montecasino. The new season will premiere on TV next Monday.
