New beginning for Gagasi FM

Radio branches out to multi-platforms

SA’s number one regional commercial brand Gagasi FM has had an impressive makeover.

The station recently moved to a new location in the north of Durban with new state-of-theart studio equipment. The launch on September 28 was attended by the likes of the Kings of the Weekend and ANC provincial spokesperson Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu.

Managing director Vukile Zondi said the radio station had been doing an intensive review over the past few years for future use.

“From our company values, to performance measurements, to our on-air talent offering as well as enhancing consumer engagement across on-air, online and eventing platforms. In the process, certain elements about how the brand was being projected needed to change.”

Since the station’s inception in 2006, it has grown from the main hubs of KwaZulu-Natal to the most rural and remote parts of the province.

“Moving towards the future, we needed a paradigm shift in our mindset. We needed to adopt forward thinking and begin to define our business beyond the parameters of radio in the traditional sense.

“This meant a new vision, a new perspective on the brand, a new beginning,” Zondi said.

The radio station plans to establish an online platform and an events branch.

Phinda Magwaza, head of brand at Gagasi FM, said this was in line with keeping up with the ever-changing market.

“We are very excited about the future. This moment marks the start of a new journey we are now officially a multi-platform business … to ensure commercial viability and sustainability.”
