Marry Me Now shines spotlight on the brides

New show keeps groom in the dark

- By Emmanuel Tjiya

Sisters are doing it for themselves in new wedding TV show Marry Me Now.

Set to debut on Friday November 2 at 7pm on 1Magic, the show will be hosted by actress Talitha Ndima who is renowned for her acting roles in Igazi and Zabalaza.

The female-empowering show will over a period of three days feature brides-to-be planning their dream proposal and wedding.

The brave candidate is given a wedding planner and budget to spend on her dream décor, cake, flower arrangement, food menu and bridal wear.

Her relatives, friends and her partner’s family are all in on the plan, leaving the groom-to-be the only person in the dark.

Ryan van Heerden, PR manager M-Net local entertainment channels, promises that each episode will cater to all the bride’s desires and will feature traditional African weddings. “It was handled on a case-by-case basis. The wishes of the family were always taken into consideration, as we value the importance of customary tradition,” Van Heerden said.

“It’s the bride’s decision whether it will be a white wedding or traditional wedding featured. The groom-to-be is clueless until the wedding day. All couples featured were vetted at various stages, during both preproduction and shooting.”

With so many wedding shows on local TV, the most popular being Our Perfect Wedding (OPW) which airs on sister channel Mzansi Magic, what is going to set this one apart?

“The show does not compete with OPW, it is a completely different concept and format – focusing on the journey before the actual wedding,” he said.
