A school patroller at AB Xuma Primary School in Soweto told an eight-year-old girl that he loved her and wanted to make her his second wife.

The revelations were made in the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Palmridge yesterday, where Johannes Molefe, 58, is on trial for allegedly raping two girls and sexually assaulting 11 others. He allegedly violated the girls at the school where he worked as a patroller last year. The mother of the girl, now nine years old, who was allegedly raped by Molefe said she never alerted the school principal about the incident because the school had previously dismissed a complaint she brought forward. “She said mkhulu (Molefe) touched her breasts and buttocks, and said he loved her and wanted to marry her to make her his second wife. He also invited her to his house,” she said.

The mother said she later learned that Molefe touched her daughter in her private parts.

The girl relived the day she told her mother that she was violated.

She, tes tifying on camera, told the court that her mother was the first person she told about the incident. The girl said this while giving testimony through an intermediary. Judge Peet Johnson granted the media access to the trial on condition that the victims are not identified in anyway. The girl told the court she was in her school uniforms when Molefe offered to buy her and her friends sweets. She said Molefe accompanied her and her friends while walking out of the school premises to wait for their transport at the gate where he allegedly violated her.

“I said to my mother there is something I want to tell you but at school they said we must not tell anyone. She (her mother) said ‘tell me’. I said to her ‘promise me you will not tell anyone’, she said she would not.

“I said to her we were walking with mkhulu [Molefe] at school, he said he wanted to buy us sweets. He then lifted my dress [while walking], pulled down my leggings, my

panty and inserted his finger,” she told the court.

The girl said she did not remember the date of the incident, when her mother asked for more details. “My mom asked me why I did not tell her earlier and I told her that it’s because at school they said we must not tell anyone,” she said. “My mother said if anything like that happened again I should tell her immediately,” the girl told the court

She said she told her mother that Molefe taught her and her friends a dance and that he wanted them to go to his house so that he could spoil them and make them dinner.

Trial continues.
