Tembisa’s talent recognised
Football league a fruitful partnership
Highlands Park director Brad Kaftel is delighted that his company’s involvement with the Tembisa United Football Association (Tufa) is bearing fruit.
Kaftel, the owner of the VW car dealership in Hatfield, sponsors Tufa.
The football association hosted a prize-giving ceremony at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa yesterday. Speaking at the ceremony to honour the under-14, U-15 and U-17 development sides that play in the Hatfield VW League in Tembisa, Kaftel said: “Some people have questioned our commitment to football holistically in Tembisa, especially by making Makhulong Stadium our home since we are the sponsor of Highlands Park.
“We have been sponsoring Tufa for five years now and we are proud that today, these young kids and referees are being honoured.”
The handover of the awards was done by Tufa chairman Sinky Mnisi, who is also one of the directors at Highlands Park – the other being Larry Brookestone.
Kaftel continued: “Our club gets massive support from the local people here in Tembisa. If we ignore development then the professional side is doomed to fail.
“Our company operates between Gauteng and Pretoria, and Tembisa sits right in the middle.
“It is a privilege for us to be part of this community, and sitting here and looking at these young boys and referees being honoured makes me proud.”
Mnisi added: “As chairman of Tufa I appreciate the fact that we are able to touch and change lives of young kids. We’ve got young referees who can make an impact. As the saying goes, ‘catch them young and the future is bright’. “I appreciated what our sponsors are doing because not many companies can do what they are doing.”
