Myth of ‘big’ three party logic in SA a shame

-

Nompumelelo Runji contends, “...be more vigilant about the choices it makes...” referring to what the SA electorate is faced with in the next election. Then goes on to claim that the so-called ‘big three’ political parties deserve to have the spotlight cast on them. What a contradiction.

She will claim she is a “democrat” but at the same time, thinks the capacity to take the country to its highest potential is the preserve of three political entities – one has already had 25 years to do so, and has failed dismally. South Africa is going nowhere with journalists so narrowminded. Einstein said “foolishness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting to have a different outcome”. Popularity, a consequence of good marketing, can never be a substitute for quality. Milk sells less liters than coke, but the nutritional value of milk is hundred times superior.

There are no “small parties”, only less funded, less marketed parties. The media takes it upon itself to expose ideas brewing in society in a selective way under the pretext of some being “big” and others ‘small’.

That many did not vote for a particular party in the last election, is no reflection of the capacity of the party to do what is right for society. It may be that the electorate is stupid, brainwashed, uninformed, or those with resources and selfish ends, have acted effectively.

A good example is the apartheid Nationalist Party. Popular among those allowed to vote, but in the end they ran the country to the ground. To show those who made the NP popular were brainwashed, it is difficult these days to find anyone who supported the NP, and the majority of whites in this country have always been here during apartheid. Progressive Party, had one MP, Helen Suzman, despite holding ideas that would have saved SA from being a pariah in the world. PAC and Azapo hold the ideas that could make African people great Anyone who purports to be a Democrat should be open to all ideas.
