Former TV star Caroline Borole has proved that she is a great singer when she took on the role of rock and roll superstar Tina Turner in the tribute musical.

Titled Tina – Simply the Best, the musical tribute is on at Roodepoort Theatre on the west rand.

It highlights the unforgettable hits from the legendary singer Turner.

Borole, the former Generations star, has re-branded herself as a queen of musicals and cabaret shows. Her new role did not come as a surprise because of her vocal talent.

The east rand-born star was head-hunted by Australian director Johnny Van Grinsven for the role of Turner due to her impressive vocal skills.

Oozing confidence and experience, having done international music shows such as Under African Skies and Dream Girls, she easily landed the gig.

Tina – Simply The Best premiered last year at Sibaya Theatre in Durban, and a few weeks ago it opened at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.

Borole tells Time Out that she feels honoured to portray such a powerful person.

“Tina is one of the greatest musicians, who is respected worldwide. I feel special to play her.

“I just wish one day I can meet her,” Borole says.

Borole admits that portraying someone with such an impressive stage presence is a challenge. Turner is known for her energetic performances.

“Since she is an energetic person, I have to be physically fit. I have to acquaint myself with the highly intense dancing. But I am enjoying myself.

“For me this is it, I am living my dream. This is what I always wanted,” she says.

Borole, who boasts a powerful and versatile voice, takes the audience down memory lane, singing hits such as What’s Love Got To Do With It, River Deep Mountain High, Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, We Don’t Need Another Hero, What You Get Is What You See, Private Dancer and many more.

Borole, who began singing at the age of 10, says landing Turner’s role is a dream come true. She says she has loved Turner since she was young.

“My dream has just become a reality. I am so excited doing something that I always wanted to do.”

She has toured the world with Showtime Australia and productions such as The Greatest Love of All: Whitney Houston Show and the Michael Jackson History Show.

The show is on until December 16.
