CHIEFS Daniel Cardoso

Not only did he show composure to slot home the penalty to give Chiefs the lead, but was equally competent in defence.

Bernard Parker

Parker, 32, showed no tired legs through the 90 minutes, playing mostly at wing. He covered much ground – statistics show it was close to 10km – and had a couple of good attempts at goal. Playing with the armband, the former Bafana Bafana international led by example.

Khama Billiat

Billiat has been slated for the “dive” that won Chiefs the penalty. Asavela Mbekile appeared to have his arm around Billiat, but replays suggest it may have been a little soft of referee Abongile Tom to award the spot-kick. But the reason Chiefs won the penalty is mainly because Billiat firstly dispossessed Mbekile in the Chiefs half and set off on a good run.

PIRATES Ben Motshwari

Many would remember the goal that Thembinkosi Lorch scored to earn Pirates a point, but not the pass that led to the goal. That defence-splitting pass was from man-of-thematch Motshwari, who was immense for the Buccaneers in the centre of the park.

Happy Jele

Jele won a lot of balls and always wanted to be first to the ball. When Pirates were a goal down, he was even up front helping in the fight to get back into the match.

Thembinkosi Lorch

Always full of running and showed no sign of giving up the fight until he found the equaliser for Pirates. Before the goal, his 10th of the season, Lorch put up a good fight to get Pirates back into the game, though their combinations up front didn’t always work.
