Baroka seek Mokaba blessings

Side hopes visit to Mokaba family, grave will bring luck

Limpopo side Baroka are trying to make things right in their fight to beat the dreaded relegation axe.

Lying 14th after 20 matches in the Absa Premiership, Bakgaga’s main undoing has been their inability to win home matches. Since their promotion to the top flight in the 2016/17 season, they have won six matches out of 40 played at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

In seeking some luck, they went to Mankweng this week to visit the family of the late ANC politician Peter Mokaba – the man after whom the stadium is named. Bakgaga also visited his grave, accompanied by MEC for sport, arts and culture in Limpopo, Thandi Moraka. Baroka believe this is what they should have done when they got promoted, because they needed some ancestral blessings.

“Actually, we have seen that the team has no luck when playing at Peter Mokaba Stadium,” said team manager Richard Mashabane.

“We have not been doing well since the team started playing there, so we decided to visit the family of Peter Mokaba for the blessings.

“The family was very happy to see us and said they had been waiting for us to come to get the blessings from them.

“If you check our games, we play very well but we are conceding. We cannot afford to continue with the same things. We needed luck and blessings.” Baroka’s next match will be away to SuperSport United on February 23, before they face Polokwane City at Peter Mokaba Stadium early next month.
