Fuzile’s boxing future looks golden

Star to fight Mexican Romulo Koasichia next

- By Bongani Magasela

Boxing South Africa’s 2016 prospect of the year, Azinga “Golden Boy” Fuzile, cannot afford to disappear, in the eyes of the local fight public, especially during an era where opportunities are opening up once again for SA, and actually the whole continent, on the global stage.

He is the glowing light and could possibly take over the limelight from current star Zolani “Last Born” Tete from Mdantsane.

Even some individuals from Mdantsane – home of Vuyani “The Beast” Bungu, who made a record 13 defences of his IBF junior featherweight belt – agree that Fuzile is destined for greater heights. Boasting eight knockouts in 13 wins, the 22-year-old IBF Intercontinental junior lightweight champion and his management of shrewd businessman Colin Nathan must up their game in terms of marketing this boxer.

Fuzile shot to the top when the likes of Mabhuti Sinyabi, Tshifhiwa Munyai and Malcolm Klassen were heading towards deserved rests after glowing careers. His last fight, a stoppage of Ibrahim Class from Tanzania, which headlined Rumble Africa’s bill at Orient Theatre on December 9, was good but it could have been great.

It is rumoured that he will be in action against Mexican veteran Romulo Koasichia in Port Elizabeth on April 17. They will be fighting for the IBF International title.

Victory for the sixth-rated Fuzile could bring him closer to fighting for the actual IBF title, which is currently held by American Tevin Farmer.
