Political tender system flawed and feeds the culture of self-entitlement

-

The killings now taking place in Nelson Mandela Bay have no place in our society.

On the other hand, they’re proving what can happen when selfentitlement gets out of hand. The tender system was flawed from day one. Politicians were always going to use the tender system for cronyism purposes.

Right now, the tender system operates like an underworld system where people who were always guaranteed of tenders are going to eliminate those they think don’t deserve them.

What worries me when people start killing each other is when business people see opportunities and start getting involved without considering the dark side. It goes without saying that those people become sitting ducks. I’m reminded of a story I once heard of a businessman who bought minibuses thinking it was a good business idea until one of his drivers came to him with a message that the owner was required to attend a meeting at the rank and he had to bring his gun along. Needless to say, the poor chap promptly sold all those minibuses. People who manipulate the tender system are to blame for all this. If tenders were shared equitably from day one, we wouldn’t be having all these problems. People have grown accustomed to having tenders all to themselves. I’m not sure if we have a solution to the problem because politicians are known to award tenders to themselves using loved ones as decoys. Richardson Mzaidume Pimville
