Happy Snowy Maphakela Mokoena was born in 1962 and was the only daughter among three boys of the late Martin and Dikeledi Maphakela.

She began her schooling at Ipolokeng Lower Primary, then moved to Seipateng Higher Primary and completed her matric at Gaeseitsew­e High in Ngobi, Warmbaths.

Mokoena’s first job after completing matric was at Armstrong Bookshop, marking the beginning of a long career in the retail environmen­t.

In 2003, she married Simon Mokoena.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Mokoena’s strong will and determinat­ion saw her overcome the illness.

support others, volunteeri­ng at the Chris Hani Baragwanat­h Academic Hospital’s breast care centre.

Mokoena was an active churchgoer and she will be remembered for her strength of character and as a woman of great vision. She succumbed to a long illness on Monday.

She is survived by her brother Stephen and loving family. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
