Gin Fizz a very sweet Pick 6 banker

Frosted Gold to remain unbeaten

- By Racing Editor

Gin Falling Fizz Rain, was to the visit first the progeny winner’s of enclosure late sire, Soft and it was a breath-taking debut performance, annihilating her rivals by an extending 7.40 lengths over the minimum trip. Most impressive was the fact her jockey Gavin Lerena did not even lift his crop once. This two-year-old filly is clearly an above-average thoroughbred and her conditioner, Mike de Kock, has a sentimental attachment to her because he trained both her father (Soft Falling Rain) and her mother (Espumanti). Gin Fizz looks Pick 6 banker material when she lines up in tomorrow’s Race 4, the Listed Ruffian Stakes over 1000m on the Turffontein Standside track. The jockey-trainer combination of Lerena and De Kock should be seen in the winner’s enclosure following the running of Race 6, the Listed Derby Trial with Protea Paradise. This son of Dynasty impressively overcame a shocking draw in his most recent performance when coming from last at the 500m marker to defeat Senor Lizard (who renews rivalry) by 2.40 lengths over 2000m. The unkindest cut of all seems to have done this three-year-old the world of good, plus he has found his niche over the 2000m distance. Protea Paradise was the unluckiest of losers in his only other effort over this trip, finishing the whisker margin of 0.10 lengths in second place behind Grade 1 Cape Derby winner Atyaab. The only chink in his armour is he has to overcome a terrible No 14 draw in this 15-horse field. If Lerena can get him to reproduce anything close to his most recent victory, Protea Paradise will have absolutely no trouble outclassing his stable companion and the lone filly in the contest, Storm Destiny. Although this daughter of Dynasty is smartly drawn at No 8 and has the right form credentials to win a race like this, she unfortunately has to shoulder 3kg more than the selection and that is a massive disadvantage. It could also pay to side with the unbeaten Frosted Gold in Race 3, the Listed Storm Bird Stakes over 1000m. The Listed Breeders Guineas will headline proceedings at Fairview today and following a breath taking 6.75-length triumph, the Alan Greefftrained Madame Speaker, should be hard to peg back when she lines up in the Race 7 contest on the Polytrack. This daughter of Pathfork has only missed the first two once in 13 performances so she is no slouch. This three-year-old beat the highly-rated National Park by a gutsy 0.10 lengths in September last year and if brings her A-game will be almost impossible to beat. She is weighted to win and should confirm superiority over her main danger, Klever Kathy, who finished a mammoth 12 lengths behind her last time. She is unlikely to turn the form around.
