Good soccer puts bums on seats

-

The 2019/2020 Premier Soccer League season could be counted among the best, if what we have witnessed so far in the campaign is anything to go by.

The so-called PSL big guns are dishing out an enthralling brand of football, much to the excitement of the game’s addicts.

On Wednesday night at Orlando Stadium where resurgent Orlando Pirates hosted and beat defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, the stadium was packed.

The atmosphere was electric and the two sides were welcomed onto the field amid a cacophony of cheering and clapping fans.

It will always be a good advert for SA football to have more bums on seats during matches.

We hope that more sponsors will come knocking at the PSL’s door, which will also be good for the beautiful game.

Pirates are now able to bring supporters back to the stadium because they are winning matches under new German trainer Josef Zinnbauer.

This is proof that supporters would not mind to spend their hard-earned money to go to the stadium to watch entertaining football and goals, which is exactly what the top teams are doing.

Gabadinho Mhango has regained his mojo and is now clinical in front of goal.

He leads the goalscoring chart with 11 strikes, and this means that the days of having a player winning the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot Award with a mere 10 goals are over.

Bongi Ntuli, Samir Nurkovic, Peter Shalulile and Bradley Grobler are also challenging for the gong.

What we have witnessed on the pitch of play has given supporters something to debate about rather than to talk about things like crime.

Though the title race appears to be a one-horse race for Kaizer Chiefs, the Soweto giants can’t afford any missteps at this crucial period of the campaign.

We all know that the game of football is full of surprises. We hope the best team will wear the crown in May. We wish those who are fighting for survival at the other end of the table luck.

To supporters, we say continue to make the atmosphere electrifying at the stadium by coming in your numbers.

Your presence will always give your favourite teams an extra edge.
