Ole’s team seek first win at Anfield win since 2016

SOCCER ANY 15 POOL KICKS OFF WITH R758,158 CARRYOVER

- By Mark Gleeson

It has taken a decade or two but the tide has certainly changed with Liverpool on the brink of being crowned champions, while Manchester United fret again about whether they will qualify for next season’s Champions League.

It was not long ago that it used to be the other way round. But Liverpool’s record-breaking start to the season means it is near-impossible to foresee any other outcome than them taking the title and ending a 30-year wait for the Premier League crown.

It is terribly frustrating for those waiting for their smooth journey to suffer some sort of pothole.

The possibility of Liverpool imploding in a game is always there, but predictions of an imminent implosion have proved way off the mark over the last months.

It was much the same last season when Manchester City were the all-conquering juggernaut that swept aside everything in its path.

That was until they hosted Crystal Palace just before Christmas 2018 and got beaten 3-2.

In the end it proved but a temporary setback as Pep Guardiola’s team set new standards in taking the title.

TAB soccer customers will be contemplating if history can repeat itself when Palace visit City this weekend for the first time since that surprise success 13 months ago. Plus whether Liverpool are a banker or whether they should add the draw and even a United win in their perms.

City’s clash with Crystal Palace is among the matches in tomorrow’s Soccer Any 15 pool, which should total nearly R2 million as a result of a carryover of some R800,000.

Past trips by the Red Devils to Anfield throw up some interesting stats. Only two wins in the last five matches for the home side, two draws and a single success for United - four years ago when Wayne Rooney got the game winner.

The odds are now firmly in Liverpool’s favour, but there will be a big bonus for brave punters if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s lot win.

Sheffield United, Southampton and West Ham are also teams showing form over the last weeks and with the potential to upset, but in the top four Chelsea and Leicester City should win, even though they play away.
