Baba, stay where you are, it’s time to eat in your name

We, the countless looting residents of Soweto, Alexandra, KZN and Emalahleni, have (as of July 13) woken up with a happy feeling at the good opportunity the imprisonment of Jacob Zuma has brought us. We ransacked not only supermarkets but also those of the liquor stores.

We are praying for the periodic imprisonment of Zuma, say every three months, because it would be a great opportunity to once again feast freely and loot without care or caution. Private property? What’s that. Our liberators, were they not the ones who decried private property rights in the 1990s? Didn’t they tell us only socioeconomic rights matter?

Msholozi, please stay behind bars so that we may eat, drink and steal in your name. We have been hungry for a long time and we are unemployed and poor. So, your arrest , Msholozi, is good news for us. It is our time to eat.

We pray for your periodic incarceration because you have so many charges still awaiting you. We shall empty the stores in our call for your freedom but which freedom will not fill our stomachs. We don’t like your imprisonment but it feeds our families.

It is our time to loot, Msholozi, because you and many of your officials and friends in high positions have been looting the likes of Eskom, Transnet, municipalities, Sassa, SSA, SAPS, water boards, etc. We took only small change, Msholozi, but your former officials lifted not beers, brandy and beef, but hundreds of millions of rand. Our haul was only liquor and groceries.

Okay, here and there, we smashed ATMs, lifted fridges, computers, TVs, lounge sofas, etc but we left behind such useless things as dog food and kitten stuff. We didn’t mind about the police because in some places as in Durban they even joined us in the looting at midnight. So if police are hungry, what about us?

The police deserted us during the day when TV people were around poking their mics in our faces, but in pitch darkness before TV cameras arrived they were our looting comrades. Poor police. They have no crime intelligence.

State security, what’s that? We also like our police because they arrived only after we had emptied the supermarkets. Even their own weapons were not like your own Awuleth’ Umshini Wakho Msholozi. They can’t even dance like you, Msholozi.

They are too fat. Your Umshini was liberating for you but not filling our stomachs. Ah, Msholozi, your misery is our salvation. But our only mistake was to destroy these supermarkets and ATMs in our kasi. Where shall we loot tomorrow because these damn capitalists will not rebuild their looted businesses?

Oh, a few of the dead during our looting was no more than collateral damage. Even the child who was shot dead was just an unfortunate collateral casualty.

Since you are still in prison and we have the loot and capitalists have not rebuilt their businesses, we can only wait and pray for another Msholozi arrest. Our problem though is that all shopping malls in our areas are destroyed. We will be back to square one then.
