Hannibal Season 2
Sony Entertainment Television, Channel 127, Tuesday, 21:50 I can’t tell you what my favourite movie is. I try to have fairly high standards, but even so I’d probably have to take my socks off to count the movies I really love.
Hypothetically, if I were to answer this question, The Silence of
Lambs (1991) is one title I’d put on the bucket list for consideration. If you haven’t seen it, just watch it already — if you’re even remotely interested in horror or crime thrillers, it’s one of the best.
Because it’s so good, fans are drawn to anything related to the movie, including other movies featuring Hannibal Lecter and the eponymous TV series, Hannibal.
Season one was well-received and even if violence and gore are not your thing, the performances and writing are compelling enough to get past it. It told the story of how FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) was drawn into a series of murder investigations by FBI behavioural analysis chief Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne). They get help from a respected psychiatrist, Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), who sees in agent Graham a kindred spirit who can empathise with the darker side of humanity — to a suspicious degree, as it turns out.
Long story short, the first season, after many twists turns and mysteries — spoiler alert! — ends with Graham being arrested and charged with what he now knows to be Lecter’s crimes.
Season two opens with him getting ready to prove his innocence and stop the duplicitous but frighteningly cunning Lecter. Let’s hope it turns out as deliciously disturbing as the first season was.
