Radovan Krejcir’s trail of blood and intrigue
Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir, who is wanted in his country for various crimes, is arrested after entering South Africa from the Seychelles on a false passport. He meets George Louca in a cell at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court and they become acquaintances. Magistrate Stephen Holzen releases Krejcir on bail after 40 days in custody. Holzen rules against extraditing Krejcir.
Krejcir later sends Louca to the Czech Republic, allegedly to mastermind a hit on three of Krejcir’s former business associates who had become enemies. Lolly Jackson is killed in cold blood at Louca’s house in Kempton Park and Louca flees to Cyprus. The High Court in Johannesburg overturns Holzen’s decision not to extradite Krejcir. During an exclusive interview with the Sunday Times in Cyprus, Louca says he wants a “fair trial” and that he will not go down alone. The Justice Department approaches the Cyprus government to file for Louca’s extradition. Louca denies killing Jackson but says he will not reveal who did even if he were to be extradited because that would get him killed. A court in Cyprus grants an order for the extradition of Louca to South Africa, where he is wanted in connection with Jackson’s murder. Louca appeals the decision to extradite him but loses. Krejcir and three others are arrested on charges of kidnapping, assault and attempted murder. The Palm Ridge Regional Court rejects Krejcir’s bail application. Louca is charged with Jackson’s murder on his arrival from Cyprus following his successful extradition. Louca is reported to be terminally ill with lung cancer.
