Cape toasts couture and coffee beans
“WHO are you, why are you here?” These aren’t really the words you want to be greeted with when you arrive for a highbrow fashion shindig.
But that is what guests got at the Enterprise Mauritius fashion show at the Table Bay Hotel on Wednesday night, where the person at the door was quizzing guests as if they were lost.
Inside, calm was restored by the mere sight of Adelaide Potgieter’s vintage skirt and fur coat. And her father André’s classy dress sense helped create the atmosphere of a true fashion show.
Another beautifully attired guest was blogger Anuell Ahmar, who wore the most exquisite red velvet jacket by CSquared.
The pleasant and friendly mayor of Stellenbosch, Conrad Sidego, upped the entertainment value by taking selfies and speaking to almost everyone at the soirée.
On the ramp, top-notch design, creative presentation and innovative garments were missing in action, and the clothes looked a bit too retail-store.
On Thursday, it was a whole different vibe when coffee brand Nespresso launched its own magazine at the Reserve in the city centre.
The who’s who of the Mother City pitched up, including Espresso’s Katlego Maboe, surfer and model Roxy Louw, former Survivor SA host Mark Bayly and 2002 Idols winner Heinz Winckler.
The ex-reality star was overheard telling guests he was “once upon a time famous”. He also seemed to enjoy chatting while the host, musician and Idols presenter Proverb, was speaking during the presentation.
Wine made the rounds and the small servings of food — including oysters, tuna tataki and beet-cured salmon — made for a pleasant evening.
The speeches could have been shorter and better lighting would have allowed the guests to at least see each other, but it was still one fabulous evening.
