VIRGIN Active South Africa has appointed Ross Tucker as a scientific consultant.

He will provide members with scientific expertise and advice relating to exercise as well as commenting on the fitness industry.

Tucker, a professor of exercise physiology at the University of the Free State, says there is a chasm between science in the laboratory and its implementa­tion and applicatio­n to every athlete.

Ross Faragher-Thomas, the MD of Virgin Active South Africa, said Tucker would share the benefits of his “considerab­le expertise and we are delighted to have him on board. We believe he’ll be able to bring the latest research and thinking in sports science directly to club level, where members can apply new principles in their training regimes.” KYOCERA Document Solutions South Africa has appointed Davy Khonzani hardware product manager.

Khonzani will manage the product life cycle of Kyocera’s complete hardware range, ensuring that suitable products are launched into the channel, with the appropriat­e price positionin­g.

She has more than five years’ experience as a technician and field engineer for Gestetner South Africa.

Khonzani will also be involved in training the sales force to equip them with the skills and knowledge to sell Kyocera products.

She worked as a customer training consultant for Ricoh South Africa for three years.

Khonzani has several diplomas in electrical engineerin­g, and is studying towards an honours degree in marketing through IMM Graduate School of Marketing. AIRCRAFT freight, charter and leasing company Safair has appointed Elmar Conradie CEO.

Conradie, who has been with Safair since 2005 and was instrument­al in getting its low-cost carrier, FlySafair, off the ground, was chief financial officer.

A qualified chartered accountant and certified informatio­n auditor, he has more than 10 years’ experience in the aviation industry and more than 17 years’ finance experience. “I have an intimate understand­ing of the business,” Conradie said. “Safair has assisted a number of successful carriers to launch in the market and it has given us experience and insight into how we can successful­ly disrupt the low-cost carrier and e-commerce space. My goal at FlySafair is to continue to provide our customers with on-time, affordable and accessible domestic travel.”

Conradie takes over from Dave Andrew, who remains a director.
