SANLAM Investment­s is to get a new CEO of its traditiona­l asset management business, Azola Zuma, and Benjamin Kodisang is to take over alternativ­es, which includes Africa investment­s, private equity, direct property and single-manager hedge funds.

Zuma has 12 years’ industry experience and joins Sanlam from Vunani Fund Managers, where she was an executive director and head of business developmen­t.

The traditiona­l asset management business at Sanlam Investment­s includes the equities, fixed-income, and balanced-fund teams.

Zuma has an MA in internatio­nal business from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, in the UK, and an MBA from Hanze University in Groningen, in the Netherland­s.

Kodisang, a chartered accountant, has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, 10 of which as MD at Old Mutual Properties. He joins Sanlam from Stanlib Asset Management, where he was also the MD.

He has a BCom from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and an honours in accounting from Unisa.

INSURANCE company Lion Underwriti­ng Managers has appointed Gareth Baines MD.

Before joining Lion UMA, Baines spent two years consulting and coaching, mainly in the South African insurance industry. He serves on the board of First Mutual Life in Zimbabwe.

He has experience in property and casualty insurance in Africa. He has also served on the board of the Institute of Risk Management South Africa and on various non-life and life insurance boards from 1992 to 2014.

He has worked for Guardrisk, AIG, Absa and Nedbank in executive roles.

TRANSFER pricing specialist Karen Miller has been hired by law firm Webber Wentzel to complement and strengthen its tax advisory capabiliti­es in South Africa and beyond.

Miller brings a wealth of corporate tax experience to the firm, with more than 20 years in both the public and private sectors in South Africa and the UK.

She joins Webber Wentzel from auditing and consulting firm Deloitte, where she was transfer pricing leader for the Western Cape from 2014.

Miller has a master’s of law in tax law, a postgradua­te diploma in tax law and a BSc in geography.
