Picking up the slack in yellow metal sales

-

THE economic outlook this year is not bullish and limited growth is expected.

Last year, new unit sales in the “yellow metal” sector, including skid steer loaders, graders, TLBs and rollers, fell more than 20%.

By contrast, the equipment and construct auctions of WH Auctioneers have yielded healthy growth.

“We believe we offer customers a compelling alternative to new,” said Shannon Winterstein, a partner in the business.

“As the combination of inflation and the exchange rate has pushed many new machines out of reach of some of our customers, we are able to bring an alternative option to the table.

“We enable access to a more affordable price level, often without compromising any of the benefits of new equipment. Many of our machines carry warranties and the low usage/mileage units offer pretty much the same longevity as new.

“Savvy buyers recognise the added advantage of the lower price translating into a much stronger return on investment for their businesses. As the economy bites, proactive business owners have looked for solutions to reduce their operating costs, capital outlays and debt. This has allowed us to source and sell late-model units that offer buyers excellent value for money,” Winterstein said.

“We convert our industry expertise, sourcing skills and established network into an increasingly attractive array of yellow metal at our monthly Midrand-based and other auction.

“We do our homework to bring exciting equipment into our yards, and invite all types of buyers to come find their perfect piece to fit their application and budget.”

WH Auctioneers is focused on customer experience. Its Midrand facility was designed to facilitate easy comparative viewing of the machinery and equipment going under the hammer.

Winterstein said: “We see more and more end users attending our auctions. Our cranes, for example, are arranged from smallest to largest, in a way that buyers can quickly make side-by-side comparisons in order to best fit their requirements.

“We have leveraged technology to enhance the customer experience by incorporating our webcast option, which allows remote buyers to participate in the live auction as if they were on the auction floor. We develop customer interfaces in line with global trends.

“In the current economy, high price items such as cranes represent a significant opportunity for buyers to potentially shave millions off their capital outlays — in certain cases making the difference in project feasibility and ensuring business success.”

WH Auctioneers also provided access to finance, Winterstein said. “We create value for our customers and give them a reason to keep coming back.

“It is all about the customer for us. We will continuously work towards enhancing the customer experience.”

WH Auctioneers has auctions scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Go to www.whauctions.com for details
