Go, Go, Go!

-

WHERE IT IS: At the end of a rocky offshoot of Plaatjieskraal Road, Hogsback. Hogsback is about a 2.5-hour drive from East London airport. WHY GO: It’s an affordable base for exploring Hogsback’s endlessly lush forest walks and many waterfalls. Great for single travellers too, as there’s usually someone to chat to, and meals are communal. Plus there’s literally a cat and dog per guest to hug. NEED-TO-KNOW: No plug points or electricity in the rooms. At night you will seriously need a torch. Bring enough cash, the only ATM in Hogsback empties fast. THE FOOD: A communal meal such as curry or veggie cottage pie is prepared for dinner, with enormous salads and freshly made bread. Dinner costs R85 for a veggie meal and R100 for flesh. RATES: From R355 per night for a double room; a dorm bed is R150 per person. CONTACT: E-mail info@terrakhaya.co.za or call 082 897 7503. Visit terrakhaya.co.za.
