Amakhosi icon Jeff Butler dies
FORMER Kaizer Chiefs coach Jeff Butler has died‚ according to the club.
Chiefs tweeted on their official Twitter page yesterday that their highly successful coach of the late 1980s and early 1990s had died.
Chiefs tweeted: “Our deepest condolences to the family & friends of our former coach‚ Jeff Butler after passing on this morning. May his soul RIP #Khosi4Life.”
The Premier Soccer League have released a statement saying: “The Premier Soccer League will observe a moment of silence for the late former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana coach‚ Jeff Butler. This will apply only at this evening’s Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixture between Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United at the FNB Stadium.”
Butler had a number of stints as Chiefs’ head coach in 1988 to 1989‚ 1991‚ 1992‚ and 1995 to 1996.
His 1991 and 1992 Chiefs teams were regarded as among the best seen in South Africa.
