Here’s to the health of Chiefs fans

-

TSAMAYA proposes that Kaizer Chiefs and its chairman win at least one award at the PSL awards at the end of the season: the most honest team of 201617. Bra Kaizer Motaung the other day did a Msholozi by sending out a 10-to-midnight press release inviting scribes to a "special announcement". Was the English semester conducted by Professor Steve Komphela about to come to an abrupt halt; was the "buy one get two Zimbabweans free" policy about to be jettisoned, with the underachieving Bobby Motaung, the long-suffering fans of the team wondered on social media. As it turned out, the presser was to announce a medical-aid scheme as the latest club sponsor. Considering that the club already has a funeral scheme, the addition of a medical scheme is an admission that supporting this club is a hazard to one's health.

CHIEFS’ problem of struggling to close shop in key moments seems to have been transferred from the pitch to the boardroom. The club couldn’t hold onto the suspense on Thursday before their “important announcement”. A poor job in covering the backdrop with Medshield led to the big reveal happening earlier than the club intended. The MC of that announcement, Nimrod Nkosi, made it feel like an episode of Utatakho. Motaung, reminded Nkosi of his old job when he said that he thought he was here to give us the lotto numbers.

THIS partnership couldn’t have come at an opportune time for Chiefs’ fans. The club has been raising its fans’ heart levels by the lapse of concentrations in the dying minutes. That’s how they lost to Cape Town City before drawing with SuperSport United and Golden Arrows. The next time they give their fans a near death experience, at least they will be paying a cheaper premium for medical aid.

BAROKA FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke is a true believer in the go big or go home mantra. He became the eighth wonder of the world when his overhead kick trended worldwide. This week the lanky one was a woeful sight in an owngoal fumble. He missed the ball so hard that his long legs looked like they would come off. We wonder where he will be auctioning the boots he was wearing during that mishap?

WHILE Makhulong Stadium was plunged into darkness by a power failure for an hour and 15 minutes before kickoff ahead of the crucial Highlands Park/Chippa United game on Friday night, the ball boys took advantage of the unmanned PSL backdrop and TV cameras in the tunnel where they did their own mock interviews. With the manner in which they fooled around and conducted them, clearly there's life after Carol Tshabalala and Phumlani Msibi.
