WITH its business now back on a sound financial footing, mining company Shaft Sinkers has made some senior appointments. Olebogeng Naledi Manhe is the firm’s new chairman and a director, and Matsimela Thabo Moloto is now the MD.

Manhe has been with Shaft Sinkers since 2015, when he was appointed MD. He is an electrical engineer by profession and recently obtained his master’s degree in project management.

Manhe has more than 14 years’ experience in the engineering sector, acquiring knowledge and experience in managing diverse mining-related projects such as shaft sinking, underground development, tunnelling and plant-related projects.

Moloto has been with Shaft Sinkers since 2010 and, before this promotion, was operations director for the company.

He is a mining engineer and holds a government certificate of competency for mine managers.

He has also completed an executive development programme with Wits Business School.

Moloto has worked in coal, diamond and hardrock mines, including a decade spent in shaftsinking operations. HOTEL company Marriott International has appointed Volker Heiden vice-president of Protea Hotels by Marriott for the Middle East and Africa.

Heiden is a 20-year veteran of Marriott International and will relocate to the Marriott International Cape Town office, from his role as regional vice-president for finance for the Caribbean and Latin America for Marriott.

He began his career with Hyatt International before joining Marriott International in 1997 and has worked in various regions and across many hospitality brands.

“It is an exciting move for me to take over the operations of such a significant hospitality brand on the African continent with strong development growth plans,” he said. GREG Bruwer, previously joint MD with Steven Stuart of Targeted Lifestyle Communication, has taken over the role of sole MD.

Bruwer has almost two decades’ experience in the outdoor and alternative media sales business.

He has worked at GMR Transit Media and TLC, which would later become known as Altmedia. He later joined Graffiti to start up its transit advertising business. From there, he became one of the founding partners of Massiv TV, where he worked six years before rejoining TLC in July 2013 as sales director.

“As MD, I’m intricately involved in all the sales and marketing functions, and will now be adding the operations and commercial duties of the company too,” he said. FINANCIAL services company Sasfin Capital has appointed Paul Pretorius senior corporate finance executive.

Pretorius, who qualified as a chartered accountant, has more than 20 years’ experience in corporate finance. He spent eight years at Rothschild, where he was an associate director, and also worked at Coronation Capital and Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC).

Francois Otto, the head of corporate finance at Sasfin Capital, said Pretorius’s experience and record would add value to the business.

“Paul has advised clients at the highest level for many years. His track record . . . will ensure that Sasfin Capital will continue to grow its mid-market client base,” Otto said.
