Go, Go, Go!

-

WHERE IT IS: Werfhuisie is about 20km east of Bredasdorp, 4.5km of which is on gravel.

WHAT IT HAS: The cottage is equipped for self-catering and has a small living-cum-kitchen area with a compact dining table and single bed in it, a large bedroom with beds that can be configured as a king-sized double or two singles, and a modern bathroom with a powerful raintype showerhead. There are rustic benches under a tree next to the equally rustic braai and a small private stoep nook outside the front door.

WHY GO THERE: Werfhuisie is on the 500ha Eilands Valley Farm, with sheep, pigs, springbok, beehives and a friendly dog and cats. This is a typical farmstay. As a guest you and your children are welcome to observe and participate in whatever the farmer is busy with at the time, such as sheep shearing, harvesting and beekeeping activities. If that’s not your bag, there’s ample space to walk and mountain bike, picnic in the veld under a milkwood tree, birdwatch, stargaze, swim at nearby Arniston, visit De Mond Nature Reserve or the Southern Tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas and taste wine at the many good wine farms in Elim.

THE FOOD: Self-catering but there are a number of good restaurants in nearby towns.

RATES: R600 for the cottage per night. The cottage sleeps up to three people.
