f you’re tired of seeing the same things in all the shops you visit, pop into the newly opened Liam Mooney Studio in Cape Town for a refreshing bout of retail therapy. An interior and product designer, Mooney has packed the store with what is to be a constantly evolving collection of products, ranging from customisable furniture and vintage finds to limitededition collaborative items and products by select international brands.

Expect to find a core collection of made-to-order customisable furniture by Liam Mooney, as well as a few extravagant one-off designs and carefully selected vintage finds sourced from markets and auctions. “I select pieces because they are extremely beautiful or because they are important design pieces,” says Mooney. “I like mixing vintage with new.” Mooney has also rounded up a group of local designers with whom he’s collaborated on limited-edition ranges. Think tableware by ceramicist Mervyn Gers, a desk lamp by The Artisan, table lamps, coffee mugs and sculptural vessels by SRVE ceramic studio and drinking glasses by Red Hot Glass.

Finally, there’ll be a range of both local and international brands, such as art from WHATIFTHEWORLD gallery, unusual and rare interior design books by The Book Lounge, customdesigned wool rugs by Laureen Rossouw, and locally manufactured blankets and throws in natural fibres.

“What makes the Liam Mooney Studio unique is the quick turnaround of new and exciting things to see,” says Mooney. “Edit and curation is the focus in the space and a huge emphasis will be placed on the experience — which we hope will be exciting, interesting and inspiring.” —
