Two SA schools knocked by huge racism scandals

-

Two schools, one of them among the country’s best, were rocked by a racism storm. Mostly coloured parents whose children attend Klipspruit West Secondary in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, objected to a black principal being appointed.

Schooling was disrupted, and Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi was drawn into the fray. Later in the week, Lesufi again stepped in as posh St John’s College in Houghton ticked off, but didn’t fire, a teacher accused of racism. Lesufi gave them until 1pm on Friday to sack the teacher, Keith Arlow, who handed in his resignation shortly before the deadline.

Over at Eskom, the Gupta empire was rocked by the utility suspending chief financial officer Anoj Singh, pending an inquiry. Singh was a key figure in the Gupta family’s looting of Eskom.

Some good news emerged from Kruger National Park, with environment minister Edna Molewa saying only 529 rhinos had been poached this year, compared with 542 in the same period last year.
