Not so fast, ANC tells KZN officials who want appeal

- By QAANITAH HUNTER

ANC KwaZulu-Natal leaders have been rebuked by the party’s top brass for announcing their intention to appeal against a court decision that nullified their election.

Insiders said the party’s top six leaders gave the provincial working committee a dressing-down last Friday for making a decision without Luthuli House’s approval. A special national executive committee has been called for this Friday. It will give political direction after the High Court in Pietermaritzburg ruled that the 2015 KwaZulu-Natal conference, which elected the provincial executive committee, was unlawful.

A source who attended last Friday’s meeting of the top six said the leaders were not impressed by the province’s reaction.

“[The top six] said the province jumped the gun on the appeal. The top six said: ‘You don’t decide, we decide,’ ” the insider said.

ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said Friday’s NEC meeting would decide the matter. KZN chairman Sihle Zikalala said he would not comment as the issue was before the NEC.
