The 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia will be the sixth edition to feature 32 teams. From 1930 in Uruguay to the Argentinahosted 1978 tournament, the world spectacle featured 16 teams. It grew to 24 for the Spain 1982 edition and expanded to 32 in France 16 years later
