To snatch defeat from jaws of victory

-

Nineteenth-century French writer Joseph de Maistre is credited with having said every nation gets the government it deserves. But what about the opposition?

The ruling ANC is busy tearing itself apart, a great opportunity for the opposition to consolidate and win at the polls in 2019. But what does it do? It emulates the ANC by wasting its energy on an internal fight. Pastor MyMoney was busy this week telling the media why the Desperate Alliance wasn’t keen on a coalition with the Red Berets Brigade. He’d rather stick with even smaller parties such as the right-wing FF Plus; the dying COPE and the UDM.

A few hours later, UDM leader Bantu Holomisa took to the press to complain about the pastor and his party behaving like “Big Brother” in their coalition talks. And you wonder why the Nkandla Crooner is so confident that the Guptas will rule until the Second Coming?
