Songezo boosts NDZ17 spirits

Hogarth has no idea who is going to win what promises to be a Conference of Chairs next week. But he has been watching the social media activities of one Songezo Mjongile and can’t shake the feeling that he is a “Comical Ali” in the making. Almost every ANC conference has one.

Remember how then deputy defence minister Mluleki George assured the Pipe-smoking One and his supporters that they were winning in Polokwane even when it was clear the Nkandla Tsunami was about to demolish them?

Now Mjongile is playing that role for Mama Africa and her NDZ17 campaign. When figures this week showed that McBuffalo had won most nominations, Mjongile put a positive spin on it: “CR17 won nominations NDZ17 Winning Delegates. Singaphezulu [We are ahead].” Hogarth hopes he is right, for his sake, otherwise he will soon have to look for a proper job and stop living off his political connections.
