STAYING POWER, SAN

-

Inn-keeping is a tough business and hotels come and go like the wind. Clearly, the family who have owned the Koshu Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Japan’s Southern Alps for 50 generations have the right business plan. The hotel is 1 300 years old and the hot spring around which it was built has flowed without interruption since the “spa” opened its doors … in 705AD. Rates start at 52 000 Yen (about R6 200) per night. This includes the use of the baths, which are supplied with healing waters “sourced from the chasm of the Earth”.
