It always helps to know how to say hello in someone else’s language, which, in this case, is a local dialect called Luganda. Don’t say “hi” (which is a bit rude) but rather “oli otya” or “how are you”?
Spend some time learning the names of things: potatoes are “irishes”, a motorbike is a “bodaboda” and a number-one loo stop is known as “making a short call”.
If someone offers you a “rolex”, say yes: these omelettes wrapped in chapati are a staple street food.
