The ANC set up a WhatsApp group for notices about briefings and open plenary sessions. The group eventually turned into a complaints forum about delays in the programme as ANC delegates battled it out until late into the night. As the days wore on, the group chat turned into a lost-and-found notice board, a rallying platform against bullying by the police and a medium to request toilet paper and food when these ran out. But the strangest message came from a hack posting a YouTube video of The Lion Sleeps Tonight, presumably for the benefit of foreign journalists on an African safari.
