Land Bank looting haunts Icasa chair
The tenure of Rubben Mohlaloga, chairman of regulator the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, is to come under scrutiny when parliament’s portfolio committee on communications meets on Tuesday to discuss his future.
This comes after Mohlaloga, a former ANC MP, was last month found guilty of fraud and money laundering.
Mohlaloga had been accused and charged with defrauding the Land Bank of about R6-million along with the bank’s former CEO Phil Mohlahlane at a time when Mohlaloga served as chairman of the portfolio committee on agriculture.
The DA has argued that, in terms of the law, Mohlaloga could no longer be allowed to serve as Icasa’s chairman following the fraud conviction.
Also on Tuesday, National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete is to meet opposition parties about the state of the nation address.
