A pre-Columbian Mexican language called Ayapaneco is estimated to have about 15 speakers left, aged 60-90. While that counts as “critically endangered”, it’s not as severe as the tale spun by a phone company in 2014, which claimed in an ad to have saved the language by getting its very last speakers, two men in Ayapa, Mexico, who had fallen out, to talk to each other again.
