Pravin tipped for dramatic return as head of SOEs
● Prominent ANC MP Pravin Gordhan is emerging as the leading candidate to be put in charge of the public enterprises ministry in the looming cabinet reshuffle.
This comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce changes to the cabinet he inherited from Jacob Zuma, who resigned on Wednesday after being recalled from the highest office in the land by the ANC.
According to senior ANC officials who are discussing the imminent cabinet changes with Ramaphosa, there was general agreement among party leaders that Gordhan should take over the troubled portfolio from Lynne Brown, who is expected to get the chop.
Ramaphosa also told parliament during the state of the nation address on Friday night that he planned to reduce the number of cabinet ministers and national government departments.
Among the ministers expected to be axed in a cabinet reshuffle are Mosebenzi Zwane of mineral resources, Faith Muthambi of public service and administration and Bathabile Dlamini of social development.
