Apology to Lorgat

-

● Sunday Times apologises to former Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat for unfairly stating as fact that he had “secretively” handled the organisation of the postponed T20 Global League, and that he had not been “transparent” in this regard.

We also apologise for not giving him an opportunity to respond to those statements, and for failing to exercise care in matters involving his dignity and reputation.

This follows a complaint from Lorgat to the Press Ombudsman over “How the year turned sour for former Cricket SA chief Haroon Lorgat” (December 23).

Ombud Johan Retief dismissed parts of the complaint, including the statement that Lorgat’s settlement hangs in the balance, an allegation that his settlement was linked to how much information he gives the board regarding the tournament’s failed organisation, a statement that CSA had no option but to move the Ram Slam T20 forward into the slot intended for the T20GL and that Lorgat should have made every effort to keep the board up to date.

Retief also dismissed a complaint that our reporter had a “motive” behind the reportage.
